American Werewolf in London

Blue Moon, you saw me standing alone....American Werewolf in London, watercolour on paper. Back in the late 80s and early 90s, I would often go to a local newsagents. This newsagents was part of a Kwik Save complex, it had a fish and chips shop as well, things like that. Sadly the complex isn't there anymore. For some reason many newsagents back then had extensive VHS selections. Why was this? I have no idea, must have been an 80s thing. And when I say this newsagents had an extensive VHS selection, I'm talking video store extensive. I'd often stand in awe looking at the VHS covers to films like The Toxic Avenger and California Man. By far, this newsagents had mostly horror films, such as Rawhead Rex and Hellraiser 2. It wasn't until years later that I actually saw these titles. Without a doubt, the ultimate eye catching VHS cover was American Werewolf in London. An 8 year old Doctor Westlake would wonder, why is the werewolf American? Why is a werewolf in London? Fast forward around 30 years and this film is one of my go to movies. It's one of the most 80s films ever. I like the Yorkshire countryside in the film, I like the rural pub called the Slaughtered Lamb, the dream sequences are powerful, and Rick Mayall is great. What do I find the most disturbing thing about the film? The film was made in 1981, and at the end of the movie there is a message congratulating Prince Charles and Princess Diana on their wedding.
