City Hunter Predator

Knock, knock.

I've been hesitating with making a start on the 2 metre tall drawing of the City Hunter from the 1990 film Predator 2, because I'm not sure yet whether to draw him with a mask on or not. I reckon I'll probably add a mask to the mixed media illustration, but in the meantime, I thought I'd develop a smaller drawing study of the City Hunter face. I think the design for the City Hunter is gnarly and rad, both at the same time.

I'm basing this WIP illustration on the original concept art for the Predator 2 film. The artwork I'm using as reference was created by Artist Mark Crash McCreery at Stan Winston Studio, probably in 1989.

It feels awesome to get back to making some detailed tonal drawing again. It took me about an hour to warm up, but then I went into the tonal drawing flow. I'm creating this drawing using a Faber-Castell Schwarz Black 199 pencil.

It's also a lot of fun listening to the Pred 2 soundtrack created by Alan Silvestri whilst working.
