Cessna Skymaster 337

"We're calling him the Night Flier now..."

- A quote from the 1997 Stephen King film called The Night Flier.

These are a series of wireframe and ambient occlusion renders I've made in Maya, featuring a WIP 3D model of a Cessna Skymaster 337. This make of plane appears in the 1997 film The Night Flier, and the plane in the movie is used by the vampire Dwight Renfield to travel from place to place.

I've used a light blue colour for these renders to make it easier to read the geometry on the low poly 3D model. From making this 3D model, I think I've improved my skills when using the smooth tool in Maya, working out how to apply it effectively, without losing the desired shape of the 3D model.

I already thought this make of plane is cool because of the design, and it's basically like another character in this movie. However, after researching the Cessna Skymaster 337 further, it became even cooler.

The Cessna Skymaster 337 made it's first flight in 1961, and they were frequently used for observation missions during the Vietnam War. The planes were painted black for night operations, which is most likely why the Cessna Skymaster 337 was used as the plane in The Night Flier movie.
